The artists Patrick Alan Banfield (he/him) and Mimi Kohler (she/her) work together as the duo BUTTPLUG. Based in Berlin and Stuttgart, BUTTPLUG deal with the complexity of human relationships and sexuality. Their upcoming sculpture, announced by the promotional poster „Paingainer.biz“, will be in the form of a butt plug with thorns and barbs. This sculpture links the dilemma between ultimate pleasure and potential death, and addresses profound themes such as the fear of freedom à la Sartre, the tension between dominance and submission, and issues of BDSM sexuality. Overall, the work serves as a metaphor for life’s tightrope walk, where freedom and risk go hand in hand.
